A$AP Rocky has expressed his desire to become mayor of New York

Rapper A$AP Rocky, whose real name is Rakim Athelstan Myers, has expressed his desire to run for mayor of New York. He shared this in an interview with Variety.

The musician noted that the sound of his last name could be a reason for his candidacy. According to him, “mayor” (mayor) sounds similar to his previous name, Myers.

Rakim Myers. My last name is Myers, as in the word ‘Mayor Myers’ … It sounds easy. I’m Mr. Myers, and soon I’ll be ‘Mayor Myers,'” he jokes.

He is not only joking but also declaring the seriousness of his intentions. The rapper wants to make decisions that will be useful for the community. He emphasizes that he is “very serious.”

When asked about introducing a toll for entering Manhattan during rush hour, he replied that he did not have a clear opinion yet.

“There are both positive and negative aspects to this, right? New York is already expensive to live in. With the fines and traffic jams… A car has become a luxury. I do not know the exact answer to this question, but I can honestly admit that I do not have clarity. I would be a very honest, open, and firm mayor. Mayor Myers, sincerely yours,” he added.

Rakim Myers grew up in Harlem and is not only a hip-hop artist but also a music producer, director, and actor. In February 2025, he became the first creative director of the Ray-Ban brand. The artist is currently in a relationship with Rihanna, who confirmed during the Met Gala on May 5 that she is expecting her third child.
