Prepare your wallets: farmers are raising vegetable prices

The analytical material discusses the reasons for the increase in prices for greenhouse cucumbers and onions in Ukraine.

Cold and cloudy weather caused unstable and small harvest volumes in greenhouse farms, decreasing the supply of cucumbers on the market. This decrease in imported supplies also allowed producers to increase retail prices.

Today, the main sales agreements for Ukrainian greenhouse cucumbers are concluded at 50-75 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 17% more expensive than last week. According to experts, current prices for cucumbers in Ukraine are 25% higher than in the previous year’s period.

As for onions, stocks in Ukrainian farms are actively decreasing, while demand for this vegetable is growing, which leads to an increase in prices. Farmers are offering onions at prices ranging from 18 to 27 hryvnias per kilogram, up 13% from last week. However, significant price increases have not been observed so far, as buyers complain about the poor quality of the products.

Onions in Ukraine have risen in price by an average of 26% compared to last year. Earlier, forecasts were made of a significant increase in fruit prices by 25%, but a decrease in vegetable prices is likely in the summer. Farmers have already raised prices for some popular products by 55%.
