While getting to know Italy, Bohdan Khmelnytsky discussed the problems of the legal profession with colleagues from Lombardy

Bohdan Khmelnytsky, founder and managing partner of the Bar Association “Strategic Advocacy,” participated in a study trip to Italy, where he met with representatives of the Lombardy Bar Council, a body of 25 members.

The meeting discussed the peculiarities of the bar’s functioning in Italy, lawyers’ role in the country’s legal system, and the challenges facing lawyers in the modern world. Important attention was paid to issues of professional ethics and compliance with lawyers’ work standards.

Representatives of the Council emphasized that there are about 30 30,000 lawyers in Milan, of which more than 22 thousand are engaged in practical activities and about 3 thousand are interns. In general, about 250 thousand lawyers are working in Italy, and the exam for obtaining the status of lawyer accounts for only 10% of the total number of candidates. In addition, Australia has a separate pension fund for lawyers with assets of over 20 billion euros.

Additionally, the disciplinary liability of lawyers was discussed, in particular, that even the lack of a response to a letter or phone call from a colleague can serve as a basis for proceedings.

According to Bohdan Khmelnytsky, this meeting became an essential source of professional information and inspired new ideas for raising the standards of legal practice in Ukraine.

In addition, Bohdan Khmelnytsky, together with the Ukrainian delegation, visited the Supreme Court of Cassation of Italy, Corte Suprema di Cassazione, which plays a key role in ensuring the unity of legal practice and interpretation of legislation at the national level.
