Turbulence of language policy in Berlin: Ukrainian firm organizes tours in Russian
An incident occurred in Berlin that caused widespread discussion.
One of the Ukrainian travel companies operating in the German capital conducts excursions in Russia, which has caused dissatisfaction among Ukrainians. A video of this incident was shared on the Telegram channel “Monaco Battalion,” where it was noted: “I went on an excursion, and for some reason, it is conducted in Russian.” It was emphasized that the tourists did not inform the company in advance about the language of the excursions.
This incident has intensified discussions on the networks. Many people expressed indignation that the Ukrainian company continued to use the language of the aggressor during the war.
A large number of commentators believe that Ukrainian companies should abandon the Russian language, especially at the international level, to adequately present Ukrainian culture.
At the moment, company representatives have not commented on the situation. It is also unclear whether excursions in other languages were available upon request or why Ukrainian or English were not chosen for the main tours.
The situation will likely continue to be discussed on social media and among the Ukrainian diaspora in Germany.
