Police officers are planning to increase their salaries: how will the funding increase take place?

The salary of police officers is a crucial component of the funding for law enforcement agencies. Its size depends on several factors, such as rank, position, length of service, and the region where duties are performed.

Will there be a salary increase for police officers?

In March 2025, the Verkhovna Rada voted on draft law No. 6506-1 in its first reading, which aims to change approaches to salary formation in the National Police.

The primary objective of this draft law is to make work in the police force more attractive by increasing salaries and improving working conditions, which, in turn, will help reduce personnel turnover.

The size of the salary of police officers is a critically important element of their material support. Many factors, including position, rank, length of service, and place of service, determine its size.

Key points of the draft law on increasing salaries for police officers

Minimum salary. The legislative act establishes that the wages of a police officer cannot be lower than ten times the subsistence minimum for non-disabled persons. In 2025, this amount will be 30,280 UAH.

Seniority bonuses. Monthly bonuses are provided, depending on the length of service. For example, for 1-2 years of service – 5%, and for more than 25 years – up to 50%.

Additional bonuses. The total amount of income also includes bonuses for special ranks, access to state secrets, academic degrees, as well as bonuses that cannot exceed 30% of the salary.

It is worth noting that you should not expect a salary increase shortly. It has also been announced that pensioners will receive increased pensions, with this introduction scheduled for May. At the same time, Ukrainians should prepare for a decrease in social assistance, as Sweden is also reducing its support programs.
