The cast of the Harry Potter series has been determined: chosen from more than 30 thousand children

HBO Max has announced the cast for its Harry Potter TV series, the company announced on May 27.

Dominic McLaughlin will star as Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger, while Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley.

The series is being produced for HBO Max in partnership with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television. The executive producers of the series include J.K. Rowling and David Heyman, known for their work on the original Potter films.

A statement from showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod said:

“After a long casting process led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to cast Harry, Hermione, and Ron. Their talent is astounding, and we can’t wait for audiences to see them interact on screen. Thank you to all the children who auditioned; it was great to see so much young talent.”

According to the publication, the search for actors has been ongoing since the fall of 2024, when HBO announced an open casting call. More than 30,000 children took part in it.
