These numbers are better to ignore: how to identify scammers

Scammers are always on the lookout, and most often, they initiate their activities using phones, attempting to steal your data.

According to journalists, scammers employ various tactics to establish trust. They can call from numbers that appear to be official bank or service numbers simply by changing a few digits. Another paid scheme is calls through messengers from unfamiliar contacts, where they try new methods. If you do not expect a call from support, it is best to ignore it. Be especially cautious with short numbers like 700 or 800: even if they seem like a standard advertising campaign, you should not take unnecessary risks.

You should also be wary of international numbers, in particular with the +1 code (USA). A brief conversation can lead to significant costs. Criminals take advantage of this and hope that you will call back on your own.

Those who buy new phone numbers are also at risk. Often, these numbers were already active and tied to bank accounts or accounts. Mobile operators restore inactive numbers to circulation so that the new owner may receive not only other people’s SMS but also fraud. It is recommended to verify the number through official channels before using it.

To protect yourself, it is important not to answer suspicious calls, not to click on dubious links, and not to call back strangers. Today, security on a mobile phone is just as important as the lock on your apartment door.

Previously, we reported on how scammers attempt to deceive older people, as well as other types of fraud that target lonely and unsuspecting individuals.
