Bribe for “agreement”: prosecutor demanded $10,000 for help in the case

In Ukraine, a prosecutor from a regional prosecutor’s office was detained on suspicion of extorting $10,000 for influencing a colleague in criminal proceedings.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that a prosecutor was caught accepting a bribe. This official is suspected of extorting and receiving an illegal benefit.

According to the investigation, the prosecutor received money for a promise to influence the decision of another prosecutor in a criminal case. He is charged with an act under Part 3, Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code, which provides for accepting a promise or benefit to influence a person authorized to make a decision using their official position.

According to the law, such an offense is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years and provides for confiscation of property.

According to the investigation, the detained prosecutor, using his powers, demanded $10,000 from a citizen. In return, he promised to influence another person, the prosecutor, in criminal proceedings involving the receipt of a bribe.

He offered the opportunity to conclude a plea agreement with the suspect in this case and for money promised to help achieve the “desired” result for the accused.

The prosecutor was detained by Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are currently underway, including searches of his place of residence and office.
