Changes in support: new calculations of assistance for families from June

As of June 2025, the procedure for assisting low-income families has been updated.

Payments have increased, and the conditions have become more loyal, but some requirements have remained the same.

The amount of social assistance depends not only on the family’s income but also on the new coefficient that determines the subsistence minimum. In 2025, this coefficient is expected to increase: for non-disabled individuals, it will be 60%; for children, 145%; and for people with disabilities or those who have lost their ability to work, 100%. Although the subsistence minimum has remained unchanged, the state seeks to support vulnerable categories of the population a little.

The calculation of assistance is as follows: add up the subsistence minimums of all family members and subtract your actual income. The difference will be the amount that you will be compensated for. For example, in a family with two children and working parents, the basic level of assistance here will be 11,815 hryvnias. If your income is lower, an additional amount will be paid.

To encourage Ukrainians to become self-sufficient, the government has introduced a rule requiring non-disabled unemployed individuals to either find a job or register with an employment center within two months.

In addition, families who have returned to Ukraine after staying abroad for more than 90 days or internally displaced persons who cannot work and have not paid social security contributions can also count on assistance for 6 months.

In total, the state has allocated 19.7 billion hryvnias for the implementation of this program. The Ministry of Social Policy reports that these funds should be enough to cover the needs of the most vulnerable categories of the population. Despite the challenging situation in the country, the government remains committed to its citizens, and therefore, it is essential to stay in solidarity and support one another.
