Swimming season has begun? ‘Swimmers’ in wetsuits detained at Moldovan customs
On the Ukrainian-Moldovan border, border guards detained two men who were trying to leave Ukraine illegally. They were wearing wetsuits and planned to swim across the Dniester River.
Despite the nighttime and adverse weather conditions, the men entered the water, hoping to reach the Moldovan shore unnoticed. However, they were discovered by border guards patrolling the area.
When the violators heard the sound of a motorboat, one of them tried to escape. He managed to get to the shore and change into ordinary clothes, trying to blend in with the locals, but this did not save him – both were detained.
The detainees were taken to the state border guard unit. Administrative protocols were drawn up against them for attempting an illegal crossing.
The State Border Guard Service reminds us that violating the rules of border crossing is an administrative offense, which entails liability. During martial law, the number of attempts to travel abroad illegally has increased; however, border guards remain vigilant and respond promptly to such cases.
In addition, the bodies of two men who died of severe hypothermia were recently discovered on Ukraine’s western border. They were found in a mountainous area near the Romanian border.
