Early retirement: who is entitled to early retirement?

Individuals nearing retirement age who have lost their jobs may have the opportunity to retire early under specific conditions.

To take advantage of this opportunity, at the time of dismissal, no more than one and a half years must remain before reaching retirement age. Additionally, a minimum insurance period is required to be eligible for a pension.

This opportunity is available to individuals who have lost their jobs involuntarily, such as through the liquidation of an enterprise, bankruptcy, reorganization, or staff reduction. The Law of Ukraine, “On Employment of the Population,” guarantees such persons the right to early registration of a pension.

To register for a pension early, it is necessary to register with the Employment Center as unemployed within 30 days after being dismissed. It is also essential that no suitable job is offered during the first seven days after registration.

Early assignment of a pension is possible only if there is a sufficient insurance period, as stipulated by the Law of Ukraine “On Compulsory State Pension Insurance.” Information on age and length of service is verified through data exchange between the Pension Fund and the Social Insurance Fund.
