Attack on Kremenchuk: oil refining and energy sectors under attack

Direct hits on energy facilities were recorded in the Poltava region – this is one of the largest attacks in recent times.

On the night of June 21, Kremenchuk was subjected to large-scale shelling by Russian troops. The enemy employed a mixed set of tactics: first, Shahid kamikaze drones to exhaust the air defense system, and then missiles of various types, including Caliber, Kinzhal, and Iskander.

The head of the Poltava OVA, Volodymyr Kohut, noted that most of the enemy’s weapons were destroyed by the air defense forces, but some of the missiles still reached their targets.

The main blow was struck at the energy infrastructure. Direct hits were recorded, along with falling debris in the Kremenchuk district. Firefighters and rescuers are working at the sites of the shelling, eliminating the consequences. One person received moderate injuries.

Residents of the city report at least 40-50 explosions during the night. A thick layer of smoke hangs in the air over Kremenchuk, and the air quality has deteriorated significantly. Due to high pollution levels, people are advised to keep their windows closed and avoid going outdoors unnecessarily.

Fragments of ammunition, including cluster munitions, have been found in the city’s courtyards. These shells are designed to cause damage over a large area, which indicates deliberate terror against civilians.

This is the second massive shelling of Kremenchuk in a week, as on June 15, a powerful rocket strike was also launched, which damaged energy and agricultural facilities, private homes, and power grids. Local media assessed that attack as one of the most significant during the full-scale war.
