Kopystyra detained for 60 days: court sets bail at UAH 100 million

The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court has ruled to arrest Kyiv developer Serhiy Kopystyra for 60 days. As an alternative to detention, he has the option to post bail for 100 million hryvnias.

Kopystyra is a suspect in numerous journalistic investigations, particularly regarding illegal construction on territories belonging to the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

Earlier, it was reported that the criminal proceedings regarding the unauthorized seizure of the territory of the State Automobile Transport Enterprise near Akademmistech were transferred to the investigative department of the SBU in the Kharkiv region and that the Sviatoshynsky police department of Kyiv had been investigating the case for more than a year without achieving any results. The police confirmed that the case was transferred to the SBU under Article 36, Part 5, of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine due to the declaration of martial law.

Kopystyra had connections with several companies known for their involvement in dubious developments in the capital, including KSM Development LLC. Journalists also drew attention to attempts to develop protected natural areas of the Mykola Hryshko National Botanical Garden.

Additionally, it was concerning that, instead of providing housing for NAS employees, the academy entered into an agreement with Ukrinvest LLC for construction and repair work worth 5.6 million hryvnias. Furthermore, the academy purchased computer equipment and server equipment worth over a million hryvnias.

Experts have repeatedly emphasized that, under the guise of construction, opaque operations involving state lands, corruption conspiracies, and hidden actions are taking place at various levels of government.

Kopystyra is currently under arrest, and his lawyers have the opportunity to appeal the court decision or try to post bail.
