Payments under scrutiny: inspections reveal numerous violations in utility tariffs

Numerous cases of unlawful overpricing of tariffs and improper charging of payments have been recorded in Ukraine.

The State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection reported on the results of inspections of enterprises providing utility services. Since the beginning of 2025, specialists have conducted 98 unscheduled inspections, of which 86 revealed numerous violations in tariff regulation.

The most significant number of problems was identified in the areas of water supply and wastewater treatment, where consumers face excessive tariffs.

Following the results of the inspections, 42 decisions were made to impose fines, the amount of which exceeds 1.5 million hryvnias. Sixty-eight orders were also issued to eliminate the identified violations. Suppliers must return 1.16 million hryvnias to consumers, and 43 officials received administrative penalties totaling 87,000 hryvnias.

Andriy Kreitor, deputy head of the department, confirmed that the service promptly responds to cases of unjustified tariff increases, arguing that transparency in tariff formation is the fundamental right of every citizen.

Citizens are advised to review their payments carefully and, if suspicious, contact the State Service for Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection. It was also previously reported that Ukrainians may be sent payments with additional charges for services that were not used.
