Fire before Tomorrowland kicks off: main stage destroyed by fire

The evening of July 16 was marked by a large-scale fire on the main stage of the famous electronic festival Tomorrowland, which takes place near Antwerp in the city of Boom.

This was reported by Belgian media, citing information from the CNN news service.

The fire severely damaged the massive stage structure, which is more than 140 meters long, leaving it almost destroyed. At the time of the fire, visitors had already left the festival area, but about 1,000 workers involved in the preparations were evacuated.

Residents were advised to close windows and doors due to heavy smoke, but authorities assured that the smoke was not toxic.

The causes of the fire are not yet known. It is known that pyrotechnics were used on the main stage of the festival, which led to explosions and fireworks during the fire.

An investigation is underway, and police do not rule out the possibility that technical testing of the equipment could have caused the fire.

Despite the incident, festival organizers have confirmed that the events will go ahead as planned. The DreamVille campsite is scheduled to open on July 17, and events in Brussels and Antwerp will go ahead as planned.

The festival team is working on urgent solutions to ensure that the event can take place this coming weekend.

“Due to a serious incident and fire on the main stage of Tomorrowland, our beloved Mainstage has suffered significant damage. However, none of the festival’s employees or future guests were injured. We are actively looking for a solution so that the festival can take place as scheduled,” the organizers said.

This year’s stage is one of the largest in Tomorrowland’s history, measuring approximately 147 meters high and over 500 meters wide, featuring a complex light and water design.

The theme of this year’s festival is “The World of Orbyz.” The program features performances by renowned electronic music artists, including David Guetta, Martin Garrix, Swedish House Mafia, Armin van Buuren, Steve Aoki, and many others.

Meanwhile, fires have also broken out in three different locations on the island of Chios, raising suspicions of arson.
