Banks shocked with new requirements: utility bills can now not be paid without this
In Ukrainian banks, when paying for utility services in cash, cashiers have begun to ask customers for their mobile numbers. In case of refusal, the possibility of payment can be blocked. This new practice has caused misunderstandings and questions from citizens.
Banking institutions explain that such an innovation is due to changes in the technical basis of the software used to process payments. If the phone number is not entered, the system simply will not complete the transaction, even if all other necessary data is specified.
In addition, banks note that when customers conclude contracts for the provision of payment services, they consciously consent to the processing of their personal data, including their mobile phone number. This usually happens when opening an account or registering for online banking.
Official resources of banks provide detailed information on the procedure for processing, storing and protecting the personal data of their customers. All details can be found in the “Privacy Policy” or “Personal Data” sections on their websites.
It is important to note that the issue of collecting personal information during financial transactions is regulated by the Law of Ukraine “On Personal Data Protection” and internal regulations of banks.
