Pension for people with disabilities: procedure for receiving and duration of payments
In Ukraine, persons with disabilities are entitled to pensions, which are assigned for a limited period, depending on the period for which they were diagnosed with disability.
According to the Pension Fund of Ukraine, the duration of pension payments is determined by a medical and social examination under Article 34 of the Law “On Compulsory State Pension Insurance”. However, some nuances should be taken into account.
According to the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers No. 1338, adopted on November 15, 2024, in the process of determining the duration of disability, an assessment of the person’s daily functioning is also taken into account. This provision explains in detail how the date of termination of disability is determined.
It is noted that disability remains valid until the end of the month in which a re-assessment is to be carried out. If disability is confirmed, a new registration begins from the following month.
For example, if the medical commission has scheduled a new examination for June 10, 2026, the pension will be paid until June 30, 2026, and then the Pension Fund of Ukraine will act based on the new conclusions.
All deadlines are necessarily fixed. In case of questions, it is recommended to seek advice from the Pension Fund, since each case is individual.
It should be remembered that receiving a disability pension is not automatic and lifelong; medical recommendations and state procedures must periodically confirm it.
We previously reported that elderly Ukrainians can receive significant pension supplements, as well as how the Pension Fund can reduce payments for some recipients.
We remind you that pensioners will be paid an allowance of up to 5 thousand hryvnias, and we will inform you who is entitled to these payments.
