Environmental inspection this week: significant fines and damages for air and forest polluters

Recently, numerous inspections have been carried out, a vast number of protocols have been issued, and the total amount of losses from violations of environmental legislation has reached almost 7 million hryvnias. Among the primary violators were developers who pollute the air in the Kyiv region, as well as the local authorities of the Rivne region, who allowed mass deforestation.

Week of Environmental Control: The results are impressive

From July 25 to 31, 2025, territorial and interregional divisions of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine actively acted to protect the environment. During this period, 472 control measures were carried out, during which various enterprises and facilities were inspected. Based on the results of these inspections, 318 protocols on administrative offenses were issued.

Financial statistics are as follows:

The total amount of fines imposed amounted to 77 thousand hryvnias.
97 thousand hryvnias replenished the state budget.
However, the most important thing is the assessment of the damage caused to the environment due to the violations. For the week, this figure amounted to 6 million 818 thousand hryvnias. In general, the amount of claims and lawsuits filed against violators exceeds 11 million 332 thousand hryvnias. Taking into account the previous accounts, it was possible to recover losses voluntarily and forcibly in the amount of 3 million 670 thousand hryvnias.

The most high-profile detentions: from Kyiv to Rivne

Among the many detected violations, two cases stand out in particular due to the millions in damages:

Kyiv region: severe air pollution

In the Kyiv region, specialists from the Metropolitan District Inspectorate discovered significant violations by LLC “SBMU “Pydryad”. This enterprise carried out excessive emissions into the atmosphere without an appropriate permit. A claim for a considerable amount of UAH 5,762,280 was imposed for these actions. This is a clear example of why air pollution cannot be ignored and must be addressed.

Rivne region: illegal deforestation and garbage problems

In the Rivne region, the Polissya District Inspectorate discovered two serious violations. First, a claim was made to the Kostopil City Council for UAH 4,888,086 for the illegal felling of 1,554 pine trees on communal lands near the village of Yapolot. As is known, the responsibility for this offense is assigned to the city council; the guilty parties have not yet been recognized. Secondly, for the discovery of six illegal landfills on the territory of the Velykomezhyritsa village council, damages were calculated for 617 thousand 491 hryvnia. The materials of this case have already been transferred to the police for further investigation.

These cases illustrate the importance of the work of the State Environmental Inspectorate of Ukraine, which relentlessly detects and punishes violators of environmental legislation. This is a step towards preserving the cleanliness and safety of our environment.
