Poroshenko was condemned for wearing an expensive jacket during a photo shoot with the military: a sense of bad taste and cynicism
Political expert Valentyn Gladkikh recently spoke out on social media about Petro Poroshenko’s behavior, accusing him of lacking tact and an ostentatious, luxurious lifestyle. The expert noted that the ex-president, choosing an expensive Canali jacket worth almost 75 thousand hryvnias for a photo shoot, was demonstrating this elegant style to the military, who, frankly speaking, had just stood under the summer sun.
Gladkikh emphasized that such behavior is entirely inappropriate in wartime because soldiers and volunteers currently do not need to see politicians in luxurious clothes when the country is going through difficult times. He also emphasized that Poroshenko, who has become extremely wealthy during the war, is acting unpleasantly, excessively displaying his wealth to people who need support.
“This situation is surprising. The more difficult times Ukrainians are going through, the more luxurious Petro lives,” Gladkikh noted. He also cited other instances where Poroshenko had shown “bad taste and tactlessness,” including a Christmas photoshoot with drones in a $4,300 Loro Piana shirt. Meanwhile, material aid that was being collected for the military was being held up in warehouses.
Gladkykh pointed to recurring double standards: while Poroshenko enjoys luxury, his foundations attract donations from Ukrainians who use the funds to finance personal needs, including his son’s education abroad and the vacations of MPs in the Maldives.
The expert noted that Poroshenko’s behavior is a mystery to the psychologist, which, in his opinion, may be related to his modest childhood. At the end of his post, he emphasized that in civilized countries, individuals with significant wealth usually do not demonstrate it publicly.
Poroshenko recently received criticism for traveling to London for treatment, as the destruction of state support programs for people with diabetes marked his term.
