Zelensky discussed security guarantees for Ukraine after conversation with Trump

Today, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky reached a standard position with European leaders, discussing the situation in Ukraine during a conversation with US President Donald Trump.

Zelensky reported this on his Telegram channel.

“The positions are obvious. It is necessary to achieve a sustainable peace so that it does not become another pause between attacks by Russia. It is important to stop the killings as soon as possible, stop the fighting, and protect our port infrastructure. All Ukrainian military and civilian prisoners of war, as well as children abducted by Russia, must return home. Thousands of our citizens are still being held in captivity – they must be released,” his message says.

The President noted that it is essential to maintain pressure on Russia as long as the aggression and occupation continue, as well as to strengthen sanctions in case of evasion of a peaceful end to the conflict.

“Sanctions are an effective tool. It is necessary to ensure long-term security with the participation of Europe and the United States. All issues important to Ukraine should be discussed with our participation, and none of them, including territorial issues, can be resolved without us,” he added.

As RBC-Ukraine reports, during the talks, issues of security guarantees were discussed, reminiscent of the provisions of the fifth chapter of the North Atlantic Treaty, but without NATO’s participation. The US government offered guarantees, allegedly agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin, which were voiced by Zelensky during a bilateral meeting and repeated during communication with European leaders.

Authoritative sources also report that a meeting between Putin and Trump took place at night, at which a possible ceasefire was discussed.
