After three months of fighting, Russian troops captured the village of Popiv Yar in Donetsk region

Russian armed forces have established control over the village of Popiv Yar, located in the Donetsk region. This information was provided in the morning summary of the Joint Strategic Group of Forces “Dnipro”.

“The enemy has displaced our units and occupied Popiv Yar,” the message states.

The village is located between Pokrovsk and Kostyantynivka, and fighting for it has been ongoing since May 2025. Earlier, DeepState project analysts reported that the settlement came under the control of Russian troops on August 5.

According to the General Staff, as of August 16, the 1270th day of the full-scale invasion is underway. Over the previous day, 139 combat clashes took place. Russian forces carried out two missile strikes and 111 air attacks, using three missiles and 213 guided bombs. In addition, more than 6 thousand attacks were recorded, of which multiple launch rocket systems carried out 98. Approximately 5,700 kamikaze drones participated in these attacks.

Air attacks have primarily targeted the Sumy, Chernihiv, Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions. At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces hit 10 areas of concentration of enemy workforce and equipment, three command posts, an ammunition depot, and artillery systems of the occupiers.

In the most tense direction — Pokrovsky — Ukrainian defenders repelled 45 attacks. Isolating battles also continue in the Lymansky, Siversky, Toretsky, and Novopavlovsk directions.

The Russian army suffered significant losses: about 1010 people, six tanks, two armored vehicles, 42 artillery systems, and 152 operational-tactical drones.

The situation remains difficult, and the Ukrainian military continues to effectively contain the enemy’s offensive and inflict significant losses on it.
