Vegetable prices may drop sharply: when is it more profitable to buy them for the fall
Denys Marchuk, Deputy Chairman of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council, has published a forecast for vegetable and fruit prices in Ukraine for the second half of 2025. In his opinion, during this period, vegetable prices are expected to decrease, while fruit prices will remain relatively high due to crop losses.
According to Marchuk, prices for borscht are expected to begin gradually decreasing by the end of this summer. The primary reason for this development is an expected increase in the vegetable harvest, forecasted at approximately 800,000 tons, compared to the previous season. The increase in supply from domestic producers, particularly vegetables grown in open fields, is already having a positive impact on price reduction.
It is expected that the peak of the decline in vegetable costs will occur at the end of August and the beginning of September. It is at this time that the mass harvesting of the main vegetable crops occurs, which traditionally results in the lowest prices of the year.
On the other hand, the situation with fruits looks less favorable. Spring frosts have had a significant impact on the harvest of fruit trees, particularly pears and apples, as well as stone fruits. As a result, the volume of seasonal fruits will be smaller compared to previous years, which will complicate the pricing situation.
Marchuk emphasized that although the increase in fruit supply will slightly reduce their cost, a significant decrease should not be expected. This season, it will not be possible to return to the prices observed in previous years.
