The expert highlighted serious shortcomings in the US approach to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, noting that 11 deadlines for peace talks have been announced over the past seven months. “If we had worked in the same way, we would probably have been fired, because none of these deadlines were met,” Ruslan Bortnyk claims.

According to him, the US strategy is wrong, since it is necessary first to resolve key issues and only then move on to the detailed aspects of the conflict. He recalled that in the past, there were attempts to conclude a ceasefire, but it was not possible to address more complex issues, such as nuclear arms control, during the Minsk agreements.

Bortnyk also noted that the US is trying to appear active in peace talks, focusing on tactical issues while overlooking strategic aspects. Additionally, he emphasized that the responsibility for the territorial exchange is placed on Ukraine. At the same time, the US avoids direct participation in the negotiations, which creates doubts about the possibility of implementing the agreements.

The expert emphasized that without a preliminary settlement of relations between the US and Russia, as well as the conclusion of an agreement between these parties, peace will be unattainable. Only after that will it be possible to move on to agreements between Ukraine, Russia, and Europe. “Peace is possible, but someone must take responsibility for the implementation of the agreements,” Bortnyk summarizes.
