The United States continuously delayed the terms, promising another week or two – Alexander Musienko about fresh sanctions against the Russian Federation

In his blog, US Energy Minister Chris Wright discussed the pressure exerted by the Trump administration on the European Union for refusing to purchase Russian oil and gas. He stressed that this is a condition for the introduction of US-European sanctions against the Kremlin. Although it appears right on the one hand, given Europe’s need to reduce its dependence on Russian energy, it raises doubts about the US.

Expert Oleksandr Musienko draws attention to the fact that the United States has not fulfilled its promises, is delaying the imposition of new sanctions, and at the same time is putting pressure on Europe. According to him, American politicians have constantly promised that sanctions would be imposed, but there have been no real actions – responsibility is shifted to the shoulders of Europe.

Musienko noted that this position only delays the introduction of new measures, enabling Russia to regroup its troops and continue shelling. He notes that the United States has always been a leading force in such situations, and changing the mentality in favor of Europe can be difficult.

The essence of his argument is that the US should take on a more active role in sanction policy, because simply accusing Europe of insufficient determination is not a practical approach. Musienko believes that a delay in imposing new sanctions only exacerbates the situation and that true responsibility lies with the United States.
