Changes in student Olympiads: students were informed about the innovations
Since 2025, new rules have been introduced for the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiads. The primary change is that students can now register for participation independently, without requiring the involvement of teachers or school administrators.
This was announced by Olga Khoma, Director of the Department of Education and Science of the Ternopil Regional State Administration, in response to the Ministry of Education’s order adopted in December 2024.
Structure of the Olympiads
According to the new requirements, the Olympiads will be held in three stages:
The first stage will be local and will be held at the level of territorial communities. Registration takes place from October 1 to November 10, 2025, and all students are eligible to participate.
The second stage is regional. Students studying abroad are also allowed to participate in this stage. The competition will take place from December 1, 2025, to January 26, 2026.
The third stage is all-Ukrainian, in which winners from the previous stages, international students, and representatives of the Ukrainian Physics and Mathematics Lyceum (in the disciplines of physics, mathematics, and astronomy) participate. This stage will take place from March 15 to May 10, 2026.
“The new regulation opens up the possibility of independent registration at the first stage, without involving the school or teachers. Thus, all students who wish to join the all-Ukrainian Olympiads can register during the specified period,” added Olga Khoma.
Special conditions are also provided for Ukrainian students studying abroad: they will complete the tasks remotely, adhering to the principles of academic integrity. The functions for the regional stage will be developed by the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, which will provide uniform conditions for all participants.
It was previously reported that primary school students will take mandatory tests as part of a new educational experiment. There was also talk of extending the term of study for some students and reducing the number of students in academic institutions.
