Border guards interrupted the “wedding scheme” of newlyweds from Poltava region

A woman with a disability and her husband, married for only 10 days, tried to leave Ukraine. Still, border guards detected signs of a fictitious marriage and a possible violation of mobilization processes.

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported this.

At the Mogilev-Podilskyi checkpoint, border guards detained a young family from the Poltava region who were trying to leave the country. The woman with a disability was accompanying a man of draft age, with whom she had previously entered into a marriage.

During the document check, border guards established that she had previously helped her ex-husband, also a draftee, leave Ukraine, and he did not return. The woman herself returned to the country in May 2023 and divorced in November.

These circumstances prompted law enforcement officers to conduct a more detailed check. During the interview, the couple could not consistently answer simple questions about their acquaintance and the details of their life together, which indicated the likelihood of a sham marriage.

As a result, the border guards refused them permission to cross the border. They reported the incident to the National Police due to a possible violation of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which pertains to “Illegal smuggling of persons across the state border of Ukraine.”

Earlier, operatives of the 9th Border Detachment, together with the National Police and the special unit “Dozor”, blocked the attempt of the conscript to leave Ukraine illegally.

During the action, funds, documents, and other materials confirming criminal activity were seized. The operation was carried out by servicemen of the 9th Border Detachment, together with the police of the Rivne region, with the support of the special unit “Dozor”.
