One of the EU countries has updated the requirements for Ukrainian refugees: what to look for

The Polish Senate approved a new version of the bill governing the issue of foreigners and the support of Ukrainian refugees. According to Polish Radio, the document extends the term of legal stay of Ukrainians who fled from the war until March 4, 2026. The document is now awaiting the President’s signature.

Fifty-seven senators supported the bill, while 32 voted against it. It not only continues the right of Ukrainians to stay in Poland, but also links social benefits, including the 800+ program, with employment.

The new version of the bill was developed after President Karol Navrotsky vetoed the previous version. Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Matsei Dushchyk expressed his hope that the President would sign this version of the bill.

The official noted that the parties reached a consensus on medical care, the legality of foreign nationals’ stays, access to the labor market, and restrictions on social payments. The main differences are not the issues themselves, but the forms of implementation to ensure the efficiency of the implemented mechanisms.

The dushchik also stressed that it was a discussion of the ways to make the system function effectively. The law introduces stricter control over the provision of social payments to foreigners who now depend on employment and teaching children in Polish schools. The exceptions will be parents of children with disabilities.

In addition, the new law imposes restrictions on access to medical services for Ukrainian citizens concerning treatment programs, preferential medicines, rehabilitation, and dental services. The rules of legal stay of Ukrainian military refugees will also remain in force until March 4.
