Ukrzaliznytsia may suspend suburban trains — association asks authorities to intervene

The All-Ukrainian Association of Communities called on deputies from the “Servant of the People” faction to include financing for passenger transportation by Ukrzaliznytsia in the state budget for 2026, in the amount of 22–25 billion hryvnias.

According to representatives of the association, losses from passenger transportation could reach more than 22 billion hryvnias in 2025. Previously, these costs were partially offset by profits from freight transportation, but now this opportunity is absent.

The association emphasized that without support from the state budget, transport accessibility will become critical for many communities. For many residents, suburban trains remain the only way to get to hospitals, workplaces, and educational institutions.

“Passenger transportation is not just a business service, but an important social function of the state. Without stable funding, the railway will not be able to cope with such a load,” the appeal states.
