A conflict over a girl led to a shooting: in Kyiv, a man may face up to seven years in prison
In Kyiv, a 30-year-old man opened fire in a bar after a conflict with other patrons. The police have already detained him and announced a suspicion of hooliganism with the use of weapons.
The incident happened in one of the bars on Pechersk during a conflict that arose between two companies over a girl. During the dispute, one of the participants took out a gun and shot several times in the direction of his opponent. Fortunately, none of the guests were injured.
After the shooting, the detainee continued to behave aggressively: he broke dishes in the bar and threatened other patrons and staff. Witnesses tried to stop him, but in vain.
The police detained the attacker, who seized a traumatic pistol and ammunition. The weapon was sent for examination. The arrest was carried out by operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department together with investigators of the Pechersk Police Department. The man was charged under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code – hooliganism with the use of pre-prepared weapons.
The maximum penalty under this article is up to 7 years’ imprisonment. The prosecutor’s office asked the court to place the suspect in custody, but the court imposed a milder preventive measure: 24-hour house arrest. The prosecutor’s office filed an appeal against this decision.
Currently, participants in the conflict, including the girl at the center of the events, refuse to testify. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
