Referral for additional examination from the VLK: how to choose a hospital, advice from a lawyer

During the military medical commission (VLK), a conscript may receive a referral for an additional examination at a medical facility. However, the question arises: does he have the right to choose a hospital on his own, or must he visit only the one specified in the referral?

Experts from the legal portal “Yuristy.UA” examined this situation after a resident of Lviv contacted them. He said that he received a referral for an inpatient examination at a hospital in his city. The problem is that his attending physician no longer works at this hospital but is now at another medical facility. The man asked whether he could go to a doctor who currently works in another city for an examination, and whether he would have any problems during the VLK.

Lawyer Vladislav Derii explained that in such a situation, the choice of hospital is limited. The client receives a referral for examination to a hospital assigned to a specific territorial recruitment center (TCK). After undergoing treatment, the conscript will receive a Health Examination Certificate, which must be submitted to the Military Medical Service.

“If you need to visit another hospital, you may not be issued this Certificate. This will lead to the need for repeated treatment or the elimination of discussions regarding your military registration,” the lawyer added. He recommended discussing the possibility of changing hospitals with the doctor who issued the referral.
