Mykola Tomenko criticized the authorities and the police for failing to evict the UOC-MP from historical temples

Mykola Tomenko has sharply criticized local executive bodies and law enforcement officers, accusing them of sabotaging the implementation of the Supreme Court’s decision. This decision requires the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate to vacate the historic St. Michael’s Church in Pereyaslav. Tomenko noted that supporters of the “Russian world” have continued to use this church monument for 1.5 years after the final court verdict, while local authorities are “afraid of old women” and are waiting for instructions from Kyiv. He also drew attention to the contentious situation in Kaniv, where, after being evicted from the Assumption Cathedral, MP representatives caused damage despite the police’s indifference.

Tomenko stressed the importance of Pereyaslav and the St. Michael’s Church, which was illegally taken from the reserve in favor of supporters of the “Russian world” during the Yanukovych era. The Supreme Court ruled on April 10, 2024, obliging the UOC-MP to vacate the temple, but this decision is not being implemented:

“We were stunned when we learned that for 1.5 years, the local bailiff service and the police have not taken any measures to implement the final court decision.”

When asked “Why?”, Tomenko received shocking answers:

“Because the bailiff service is wary of grandmothers who support Kirill and Putin, and the police are waiting for additional instructions from Kyiv. And this has been going on for 1.5 years!”

Vandalism in Kaniv and police indifference

The situation in Kaniv, according to Tomenko, is no less alarming. Pilgrims of the “Moscow canonical church” vacated the Assumption Cathedral, but did so amid obvious acts of vandalism.

Tomenko said that supporters of the “Russian world” managed to remove equipment from the cathedral and cut the bells of the church. In contrast, the local police, untrained to protect Ukrainian values, did not record a single crime, even as they ignored apparent violations.

He noted that they left a mural in the building that mocked famous Ukrainian church figures.

Tomenko’s assessment: “Sloppy and stupid.”

Tomenko concluded that such inaction by government agencies and law enforcement officers only fuels the aggressor.

He stated: “This is how officials who disregard the laws of Ukraine, our history, culture, and church, take the side of the enemy. Meanwhile, local representatives of Kirill are using the situation to wait for their “liberators from Moscow.” Finally, Tomenko gives an absurd example: the Pereyaslav police, which failed to evict MP supporters, opened a case against the National Reserve for building a toilet for museum visitors in the historical part of the city. This only confirms how distorted the priorities of some local authorities can be.
