Київ впроваджує систему енергетичної стійкості для ключової інфраструктури та житлових будинків

Kyiv implements energy sustainability system for key infrastructure and residential buildings

Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko announced the launch of a large-scale project to enhance the energy security of critical facilities and housing in the capital.

“In the face of constant enemy attacks, we must ensure the provision of necessary services for residents. Kyiv is actively working to attract equipment for backup energy supply in all areas. Programs to increase energy security for residential buildings continue. We are also implementing a distributed cogeneration model to strengthen production capacities and provide additional electricity for critical infrastructure,” Klitschko noted.

According to the mayor, the project is unique not only in Ukraine but also globally. “We are talking about a more maneuverable and flexible system of CHPs or mini-CHPs, which simultaneously produce electricity and heat. The localization and distribution of such mini-CHPs across different areas complicate the enemy’s efforts to destroy our energy system. In addition, the construction of new CHPs involves second-level protective structures,” he added.

By the end of the year, six mini-CHPs are planned to be launched in Kyiv, with another one to be put into operation early next year.

Klitschko also stressed the importance of providing educational institutions with energy: 85% of Kyiv schools and kindergartens have alternative power sources. “500 educational institutions are equipped with generators and backup power systems. We continue to purchase new generators. This is just one alternative energy source. A hybrid backup power system is being implemented in educational institutions, which includes autonomous generators, storage devices, and renewable energy elements to optimize energy consumption,” the mayor noted.

Small solar power plants have already been installed in some schools, which, together with energy storage devices, can provide lighting and communication in institutions, thereby increasing their energy independence.

In addition, the head of the KMVA criticized the mayor’s activities, accusing him of insufficient attention to the safety of Kyiv residents.
