Social assistance under threat: payments may be suspended due to lack of funds

In Ukraine, there may be delays in social assistance payments in the second half of 2026 if the reparation loan is not secured.

Lesya Zaburanna, head of the Verkhovna Rada subcommittee, stated this during a speech on the “Evening.LIVE” program.

According to her, the draft budget deficit for 2026 amounts to 44.5 billion dollars, and about 18 billion of these funds do not yet have a defined source of financing. As Zaburanna noted, Ukraine hopes to receive a reparation loan from the European Union, negotiations on which are underway at all levels.

In her opinion, this loan is one of the main components for covering the financial gap next year. At the same time, the politician drew attention to the fact that Belgium is currently opposed to the use of all frozen Russian assets, agreeing only to the transfer of their interest. Brussels insists that the decision on the use of assets be made jointly by all EU states.

Although the financial situation remains tense, the government assures that the main social programs will be preserved. Moreover, it is planned to expand support for families with children.

Among the planned innovations:

50 thousand hryvnias of one-time assistance at the birth of a child;
7 thousand hryvnias of monthly payments until the child reaches the age of three;
additional payments to families whose children attend kindergartens or nurseries.
Earlier, it was reported that social benefits for some categories of citizens may be canceled. More detailed information is expected in the near future, as the social assistance system is also undergoing reform.
