Schoolboy’s mother had a fight with her tutor over money, angering the internet

The mother of a Ukrainian student, Anna Vasilyanska, decided to stop classes with an English tutor and shared a correspondence in which she explained the reason for her decision. According to her, her son became uninterested in attending lessons, so there was no point in forcing him to “make up” the hours. She also asked whether the funds for the missed lessons should be refunded.

In her correspondence with the tutor, Vasilyanska noted that her child did not want to continue studying. Although the teacher offered to hold two more lessons, the schoolboy’s mother considers this impractical. “Today I decided to end the lessons with the tutor: my son is not interested, and there is no point in forcing him to study. Regarding payment – if the lessons were not held, should the tutor return the money?” she wrote on the social network.

This publication caused a great discussion among users who criticized the mother for her communication style. Many people noted that the problem was not the lessons, but the fact that the child did not want to do the tasks, and too many lessons should not look like punishment. Some added that addressing the teacher without a name was inappropriate.

In response to criticism, the tutor explained that her terms of employment do not provide for a refund for missed lessons. She confirmed her right only to work out the lessons and expressed respect for the mother’s decision, but would like to hear the opinion of the student himself.

In the comments, users noted that paying for lessons in advance is a guarantee of fulfilling obligations and expressed their opinion on the importance of respecting the teacher’s work. The story prompted a discussion about the boundaries between the child’s rights to their own interests and the obligation to respect the teacher’s work. Many parents suggested finding a compromise – either trying to find a more interesting tutor, or temporarily reducing the workload without changing the terms of payment.
