Google stops Chrome updates for certain smartphone models
Google has announced plans to end support for the Chrome browser for devices running Android 8.0 Oreo and Android 9.0 Pie. The information was published on the Chrome support forums.
These changes will take effect with the release of Chrome version 139, which is scheduled for 2026. This will primarily affect owners of several Xiaomi smartphones of the Mi and Redmi series, released between 2016 and 2018.
A Chrome support representative confirmed that Chrome version 138 will be the last compatible with Android 8 and 9. After this, updates will no longer be received through Google Play for devices running these OS versions, including security fixes and functionality improvements. This may affect the stability of the browser and the correct display of current websites in the future.

Recommendations for owners of older smartphones
For those whose devices are on the specified list, experts advise using alternative browsers. For example, Firefox for Android continues to support devices running OS version 5.0 or later and regularly releases security updates. Other options include Microsoft Edge, Opera, or Samsung Internet. However, before installation, you should check the compatibility of the selected model.
