They sold counterfeit coffee under familiar brands: criminal group punished
The Cyber Police, together with detectives from the Bureau of Economic Security of Ukraine, have uncovered the activities of a criminal group engaged in the illegal production and sale of counterfeit coffee, passing it off as products of well-known world brands.
According to the press service of the Cyber Police, the organizers did not have any agreements with trademark owners or licenses to use brands. The manufactured products were packaged in branded packaging and sold wholesale and retail through online stores, retail outlets, and local markets.
Law enforcement officers conducted searches, during which they seized equipment for production and packaging, printing equipment, ready-made counterfeits, cash, vehicles, computers, mobile phones, and documents indicating illegal activities.
The guilt of the group members in committing crimes involving the illegal use of a trademark for goods and services, as well as the legalization of property obtained by criminal means, was fully proven.
The court sentenced the defendants to five years in prison with probation, and ordered the confiscation and destruction of the manufactured products. In addition, six cars belonging to the group members, valued at about 4 million hryvnias, will be transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
