Didn’t use the account – will still have to pay: Oschadbank customers shocked by new fees
Oschadbank explained when inactive accounts may become chargeable and what customers should watch for. This issue became relevant due to discussions on social networks, where Ukrainians complained about fees for their “dormant” cards.
The bank explained that the main criterion for recognizing an account as inactive is the absence of any financial transactions for 12 months. If there were no withdrawals, top-ups, or non-cash payments during this period, then an account maintenance fee may be applied.
The fee is about 100 hryvnias and is debited only from the available balance. Oschadbank representatives emphasize that no debt arises due to such a debit. If there are only a few kopecks left on the account, the bank will only take them. In the case of a zero balance, no fee is charged.
The bank also emphasized the importance of closing the card. For this, there should be no funds on the account, even symbolic ones. If there is a balance, the account will remain open and be subject to the rules for inactive accounts.
Oschadbank specialists recommend that customers regularly check their accounts, especially those that have not been used for a long time. Even a single transaction per year can help avoid inactive account status and the associated fee.
