Deferred mobilization for those caring for a relative: is it automatically extended and what to do in case of difficulties

In Ukraine, there is a system under which men subject to military service can receive a deferment from mobilization if they regularly care for close relatives. This raises the question: do you need to reapply for the deferment each time, or is it automatically extended?

Citizens who provide constant care to a close relative in need of assistance have the legal right to a deferment from mobilization. Lawyer Yuriy Ayvazyan explained this situation on the portal “Yuristy.UA”.

In particular, this applies when a person cares for parents with a recognized disability.

A man contacted the lawyers to ask whether his deferment would be extended without the need for repeated applications. He reported that he constantly cares for his father with a second disability group and is worried that he will have to go through the registration procedure again.

The lawyer noted that, in standard cases, the deferment should be automatically renewed without requiring the person to resubmit documents.

However, the lawyer noted that in practice, there are often situations in which the automatic extension of the deferral is not reflected in the accounting data after the expiration of the previous deferral.

In such a situation, there are several ways to act. The first option is to submit a new application to the ASC, including all necessary supporting documents. The second is to make an official request to the territorial procurement center to determine the reasons the deferral was not automatically extended.

The lawyer also noted that such requests often prompt the CCC to respond more quickly and update information regarding the deferral.
