Disappointing forecast for drivers: gasoline and diesel prices in the future

In Ukraine, gasoline and diesel prices may increase by approximately 2 hryvnias per liter in the event of unfavorable developments in the currency and energy markets.

The founder of the Prime group of companies, Dmytro Leushkin, commented on this situation, stating that such an increase could occur if the hryvnia devalues to 44 hryvnias per dollar and the price of oil increases to 68–69 dollars per barrel.

Today, there is no reason for an emergency revision of prices at gas stations. As of January 14, the dollar exchange rate is 43.12 hryvnias, and the cost of Brent crude oil fluctuates around 66 dollars per barrel, although it is showing some growth due to geopolitical factors.

The expert pointed out that if the hryvnia loses about 50 kopecks more and oil rises to 68–69 dollars, then an increase in fuel prices by 2 hryvnias per liter will be quite real.

Also, Lyushkin noted that at the moment, gas station networks are operating with a lower margin, but the growth in sales volume compensates for this. The demand for fuel has increased due to the active use of generators due to frequent power outages. At the same time, wholesale prices for diesel reached 47 UAH per liter, and for gasoline – 50.9 UAH. However, according to the expert, there is currently no reason for an urgent increase in retail prices.

The specialist also emphasized that additional purchases of fuel for generators are practically offset by the usual winter decline in consumption. Despite the fact that traders’ stocks of cheaper fuel are almost exhausted, logistics are able to provide the market without a deficit.
