New pension indexation is approaching: what awaits pensioners

In March 2026, a significant increase in pensions is expected due to the traditional indexation, which is based on salary growth and the inflation rate of previous years.

According to preliminary data, the indexation of pensions may amount to approximately 15%. The final figures will be known at the end of February, when the collection of statistics on salaries and inflation is completed. At the moment, official forecasts from the government have not been published, so the figures given are indicative.

The formula for determining the indexation level is based on half of the annual inflation rate and the average annual growth in salaries over the past three years. According to the National Bank’s forecasts, inflation in 2025 will be 9.2%, and the average salary growth over three years will be approximately 20%. Thus, the indexation of pensions for most pensioners in March this year may be about 14.6%.

Previously, a slightly higher figure was planned – 15.4%, but it was based on old forecasts for salary growth and inflation. It is important to note that not the entire pension is being increased, but only that part of it that is subject to indexation according to the formula, without taking into account any age allowances.

For example, if the pension is 6,300 hryvnias, of which 300 hryvnias is an age allowance, then the indexation in March will only affect the amount of 6,000 hryvnias.

Pensioners are recommended to closely monitor official announcements of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in order to be aware of accurate data on future pension increases.

Previous news also reported on the possibility of a three-fold increase in pensions in the Rada, as well as allowances for pensioners who have grandchildren.

It is worth noting that the PFU also reported on an increase in important payments that certain categories of persons may receive.
