February frosts and heavy snowfalls: Ukraine will face severe cold

In February 2026, Ukraine is expected to experience a new wave of severe cold snap, which, according to weather forecasters, may last until the end of the month. Well-known meteorologist Igor Kibalchych reported that the country will be affected by cold Arctic air, which will bring a significant drop in temperature, especially in the western and northern regions.

In the first ten days of February, with the exception of the southern regions, night temperatures may drop to -20°C. From February 8 to 10, frosts will begin to weaken, but in the north-west of the country, cold weather may persist until the end of the month.

The weather forecaster noted that there is also a high probability of precipitation, which may exceed the norm by 10-40%. At low temperatures, most of the precipitation will fall in the form of snow, which will lead to the formation of a dense snow cover.

In the third decade of February, rain is possible in the southern regions, but the snow cover will remain on most of the country, except for the south and Transcarpathia. In some regions, the snow thickness can reach 35-45 cm, which creates an additional load on buildings and trees.

In the far south – in Crimea, the Azov region and Transcarpathia – the cold weather will not last long, and in the second half of February, positive temperatures are possible. At the same time, in the north and west of Ukraine, the average temperature will be 2-5 degrees below the climatic norm, which will require citizens to be careful due to frosty weather on the roads.
