Almost everyone will pay for the generator: institutions include expenses in checks

Some restaurants and cafes have begun to introduce a separate fee for using a generator during a power outage. This has sparked an active discussion on social networks after Andriy Luchkevych shared an example of a receipt from “Treads”.

Many visitors consider the additional fee justified if the total cost of the party is significant. They note that if the bill is 4,500 hryvnias, an additional 90 hryvnias for comfort during a power outage is quite reasonable.

The generator payment supports the business and provides an opportunity to offer customers comfort. However, there have also been critics of this decision. Users note that the cost of electricity is already included in the price of dishes, along with rent and salaries, so the repeated payment for electricity seems unfair to them. They believe that establishments should inform customers in advance about a possible surcharge.

Experts from the State Service for the Supervision of Food, Agriculture, and Consumer Protection of Ukraine emphasized that including a generator charge without the client’s consent and without warning may be illegal. In such cases, the establishment risks a fine of 30% of the cost of goods or services sold, with a minimum of 85 hryvnias. The service representative also noted that the generator serves to ensure the continuous operation of the establishment and is not a separate service for consumers.
