CHP is not worth waiting for: how long will it take to repair the damage?

The restoration of the Darnytsia thermal power plant will take approximately three years and an estimated 700 million euros. Energy expert Volodymyr Omelchenko announced such data.

He emphasized that this is not about building a new plant, but about restoring the functions that it had before the attacks. Some elements and equipment can be repaired more quickly, but the scale of the destruction requires much longer timelines for full restoration.

Omelchenko noted that in this heating season, one should not expect the CHP to return to full operation. The first results may appear in about 6 months, but the restoration work will take 2 to 3 years to complete.

Earlier, the expert emphasized that Ukraine may not be able to restore the damaged thermal power plants to operational condition by next winter, as this will require significant financial resources and time.

In addition, the director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko, reported that most of the electricity for the capital is supplied from high-voltage lines. Two main CHPs and numerous boiler houses provide the heat supply to Kyiv. At the same time, Darnytsia CHP will not be able to provide heat supply in the near future, while CHP-5 and CHP-6 continue to operate, but not at maximum capacity.

We remind you that the heating system in Kyiv is functioning and that heat is stored in most multi-storey buildings in the capital. Still, the hot water supply for residents remains questionable.
