Computer as an assistant in obtaining additional vacation: how to achieve rest

Experts pointed out that employees who work at a computer for at least half of the working day – say, 4 hours out of 8 – are entitled to receive additional annual leave. Its duration can reach four calendar days.

This applies to all employees whose activities are related to computers: from accountants and HR managers to those who work remotely. The employer is obliged to provide such leave regardless of whether it is specified in the collective agreement. Failure to comply with this obligation is subject to a fine in the amount of the minimum wage.

For employees who spend more than 4 hours at the screen, certain requirements for working conditions are also established. The workplace must meet safety standards: the monitor must not flicker and be adjustable, the keyboard must be separate and have a matte surface, and the chair must be comfortable and adjustable. It is also important to ensure adequate lighting and an acceptable noise level.

The employer must take care of the ergonomics of the workspace, organize preventive medical examinations and inform employees about potential health risks. If necessary, laboratory tests of working conditions are carried out to identify hazardous factors.

Thus, working at a computer has been officially recognized as a factor requiring additional guarantees: both in the form of shorter additional leave and in terms of increased safety standards in the workplace.
