National Guard Colonel Arrested for Attempting to Purchase Fake Disability
A colonel of the National Guard of Ukraine was detained in Kyiv on suspicion of attempting to illegally register a disability in order to be released from military service and receive state funding. This information was confirmed by the Prosecutor General’s Office.
It was established that the person involved in the case, who previously headed the Central Base of Production and Technological Equipment, tried to obtain a disability group II in order to avoid military registration. To do this, he turned to one of the medical institutions in Kyiv, where he offered a bribe for a positive decision.
Investigators found out that the medical worker turned out to be honest and refused the offer, explaining that there were no grounds for receiving disability. However, the suspect did not abandon his intentions and on March 24 transferred part of the agreed amount – three thousand US dollars. After that, he was detained in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
During urgent searches, money and other material evidence were seized that could confirm illegal actions. An investigation is currently underway into the possible involvement of other individuals in this case.
On March 25, the colonel was charged under Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with providing an unlawful benefit to an official, which provides for criminal liability. The next day, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention with the possibility of posting bail in the amount of about one million hryvnias. The defense’s request to release him on bail was rejected.
It also became known that recently in the Kyiv region, law enforcement officers reported a suspicion to a national park official who demanded $2,500 for assistance in obtaining a deferment from mobilization.
