Not just numbers: a teacher refuted the myth that mathematics is useless for humanities students
The question that worries many schoolchildren and their parents is what is the use of studying mathematics if you can use a calculator? Mathematics teacher Alina Lyalka gave convincing arguments in support of the importance of this discipline.
In her opinion, mathematics is not just a set of numbers and formulas, it is the basis that forms logical thinking and improves brain development.
One of the main arguments is that a calculator is not always at hand. The knowledge and skills that a person acquires remain with him for life. In critical situations, the ability to quickly calculate or assess circumstances can be vital.
She noted that mathematics contributes to the development of cognitive abilities, trains logic, critical thinking, and also helps to find solutions in various situations. These skills are necessary in many aspects of everyday life.
Even in areas that are traditionally considered humanitarian, such as psychology or political science, mathematics plays an important role. Statistical data and analytical calculations are used quite often there, so without basic mathematical knowledge it will be difficult to achieve success in these areas.
Another important point is the impact of mathematics on brain health. Alina Lyalka emphasizes that regular intellectual loads keep the brain in good shape, reducing the risk of developing dementia in old age.
Recall that recently a scandal arose on the Internet over graduations in kindergartens, which users commented on, noting that such events resemble a “vanity fair”.
Earlier, the news discussed the initiative to postpone the start of school to 9 am, which also caused an ambiguous reaction. Experts also noted a growing trend in social networks, which schoolchildren choose instead of lessons.
