Long power outages in the summer: how will nuclear power plant repairs affect Ukrainians
Repair work at nuclear power plants is ongoing, and no serious power outages are expected this summer. This was stated by Serhiy Nagornyak, a member of the Verkhovna Rada committee responsible for energy and housing and communal services, during an airing on the KYIV24 channel.
According to him, energy sector specialists are working according to the approved schedule, trying to complete all activities within the established deadlines. Nagornyak explained that repair work at nuclear power plants is carried out in stages: after the maintenance of one power unit is completed, the next one is immediately put into operation. This approach helps prevent electricity shortages. Each specialist focuses on implementing the plan, clearly dividing time between repair and fuel preparation for uninterrupted operation of the plants. Currently, repair work is being carried out at two power units, after which the next ones will be taken in sequence.
“Therefore, I believe that the summer period will pass without serious power outages. I do not think that we will face significant, and even more so long, power outages. We hope for the professional work of energy specialists,” the expert concluded.
Although Nagornyak is convinced that the summer will pass without significant power outages or the introduction of strict consumption restriction schedules, the stability of power supply largely depends on how consumers comply with the rules for using electricity.
