Deprivation of driver’s license on the spot: debts will lead to loss of driving license

Drivers in Ukraine who have child support debts must pay off their obligations as soon as possible; otherwise, they may find themselves without a license. This is not a joke, as current legislation allows for the revocation of rights from those who evade payments.

The system works quickly: your name is entered into a special register if you have debts. At the first traffic stop, the police have the right to confiscate a driver’s license on the spot, regardless of the reason for the stop.

If it turns out that you were aware of your situation but continued to drive anyway, you face additional sanctions in the form of a fine and a driving ban for up to six months, even if you subsequently pay the debt.

Lawyers advise everyone with child support obligations to check whether they have any unsatisfied debts. It is better to do this at home than to stop on the road in case of problems, especially if your car is a means of earning money.

This practice has been in place in Ukraine for several years, and experts say it is effective: when it comes to a child and the possibility of losing their license, debtors are strongly motivated to pay.

Therefore, do not wait for the situation to resolve if you have child support debts. It is better to do everything necessary in advance and drive safely.
