Drone attack on Crimea: explosions in Sevastopol, Dzhankoy, Kachi, and other settlements

On the night of May 2, Crimea, which is under temporary occupation, suffered one of the most significant drone attacks in recent months. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, 89 Ukrainian drones were allegedly destroyed over the peninsula.

Local Telegram channels documented explosions and fires in Sevastopol, Gvardiyske, Novofedorivka, Dzhankoy, Saki, Kachi, Armyansk, Simferopol, Yevpatoria, Feodosia, and Krasnoperekopsk. The loudest events occurred in areas where military airfields are located, particularly in Sevastopol, Dzhankoy, Kachi, and Novofedorivka.

The Crimean Wind Telegram channel reported explosions near the Kachi airfield and a fire in the village of Uglove. Eyewitnesses noted that the detonations lasted for more than five hours. Social networks are actively publishing recordings of the “cotton” taken at night in various places on the peninsula.

The occupation authorities confirmed the attack. Sevastopol’s so-called “governor”, Mikhail Razvozhaev, reported that the city was “repelling a massive combined attack” from the sea and air. He also added that the Black Sea Fleet ships had been brought into the defense. In Crimea, traffic was blocked on the Crimean Bridge, and the passage was restored only after 2.5 hours.

Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, Andriy Kovalenko, expressed his opinion on a possible Ukrainian trace in the strikes:

“The demilitarization of Crimea is an important element of security in the Black Sea. The Russian authorities perceive the peninsula as a military base from which they strike Ukrainian cities. Explosions at military facilities are part of the logic of security.”

In one of the videos, a resident assures that the drones hit the location of a missile brigade. Russian Telegram channels described the night as “the second large-scale drone attack in two days.”

Meanwhile, an attack by uncrewed boats was recorded in Novorossiysk, posing a threat to Russian warships in the port.
