Ukrainians may have enough light, while gas problems could lead to significant risks: MP expresses concern about possible blackout

While Ukrainians are worried about possible power outages, MP Serhiy Nagorno-Shahinian highlights another critical problem – gas. In an interview with the Times of Ukraine, he noted that the situation with electricity may improve, but things are much worse with gas.

Nagorno-Karabakh emphasized that the current crisis in gas reserves in Ukrainian storage facilities is much more serious than the one with electricity. “I am worried about avoiding a gas blackout and outages,” the MP added. He also noted that Russian strikes this spring were aimed specifically at gas infrastructure, which led to more significant losses than in the electricity industry.

Naftogaz confirms that gas supply restrictions are possible next winter. This could lead not only to savings but also to a complete cessation of supply to households. However, the company hopes that this will not come to that. Deputy Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Naftogaz, Natalia Boyko, noted that restoring gas supplies after a shutdown is much more difficult than restarting electricity.

“We are considering various scenarios, some of which will require tough measures, including limiting consumption. However, I hope we will improve this through gas injection and imports,” Boyko said. She also emphasized that much will depend on new attacks from Russia, which could affect the stability of gas supplies in Ukraine.
